My Vision for Westport

I believe that Westport needs a First Selectman who is not influenced by party politics and agendas. As an Independent First Selectman, I will answer to one entity – the citizens of Westport. I will be guided by the principle that town government is for the people. My campaign is rooted in collaboration, camaraderie, cooperation, and community-first problem solving. I have a deep respect for Westport’s history and a clear vision for its future. Westport is at an inflection point in its evolution as a town, and I am confident I can be the bridge between residents who have lived here for decades and recent arrivals. For years, I have dedicated my time to engaging with citizens of all ages and attending meetings of every kind. I truly believe that every resident adds value to our community. My approach to town leadership is grounded in common-sense governance at the municipal level, and I possess the energy and the commitment to keep Westport moving forward.

My Priorities:

Independent & Transparent Leadership - Making decisions free from party agendas with a focus on transparent government, due process, and weekly “brown bag” lunches with residents.
Fiscal Responsibility - Safeguarding Westport’s credit rating and managing tax dollars wisely while upgrading school and town facilities and infrastructure.
Smart, Sustainable Growth - Honoring Westport’s character and natural assets while responsibly supporting essential projects.
Improved Information Flow - Ensuring that information is flowing and accessible through digitized records and user-friendly online portals.
Traffic & Safety - Addressing traffic congestion and improving the safety of streets for students, pedestrians, and cyclists while supporting our world-class police force, firefighters and first responders.
Bridging Our Community - Uniting longtime residents and newcomers and strengthening the ties that hold Westport together.

About David

David Rosenwaks, a dedicated public servant and an elected RTM member representing District 6, has officially announced his candidacy for First Selectman of Westport. He will be Westport’s first-ever Independent Party-endorsed candidate ensuring that his name will appear on the top of the ballot on November 4th. On the heels of his unanimous endorsement from the Independent Party, David is offering voters a new path forward - one focused on cooperation, camaraderie and common-sense problem solving.

Since moving to Westport with his family five years ago, David has dedicated his time outside of family life to serving the community. He has been deeply involved in the community as a parent, soccer coach, volunteer, and an elected member of the RTM, where he has served on the Education, Library, Museum & Arts, Public Protection, and IT/Communications Committees. He is also an appointed member of the Westport Arts Advisory Committee helping preserve Westport’s legacy as an arts community. In addition, he has served on the PTA Council’s Technology Committee, helping to bridge innovation with community engagement. David also originated the RTM Community Conversation, designed to inform, engage, and connect Westport residents with their elected officials.
